Human Potential

Hello, and thank you for visiting ILAMOS. I’m Lana.

Throughout my life, I have experienced adversity at different stages; from childhood and adolescence through to adulthood. Some of those experiences were less than ideal and, in today’s therapeutic language, may be understood as trauma. There have been times when I lost hope and found it difficult to imagine a way forward.

Looking back now, one of the things I have come to believe most strongly is that, as human beings, we are always learning.

Throughout life, we learn ways of thinking, feeling and responding to the world around us. Some of these patterns continue to serve us well. Others may once have helped us cope or make sense of our experiences, but over time begin to limit us or move us further away from the life we want to live.

What gives me hope is that learning does not stop.

If we can learn patterns that no longer serve us, we can also learn different ways of understanding ourselves, responding to life’s challenges and moving forward.

That is why I don’t believe therapy is about fixing people. I don’t believe people are broken.

I believe therapy can be a place where hope is held for you when it is difficult to hold it for yourself; a place where you can begin to see possibilities that may have become difficult to see, develop new ways of responding, and recognise more of what you are capable of.

Above all, I believe in human potential.

How I Work

‍My approach is warm, practical and collaborative. I take time to understand what is happening for you, what you would like to be different, and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I draw on counselling, strategic psychotherapy and clinical hypnotherapy, adapting the way we work to your individual needs, goals and preferences. You do not need to know which approach is right for you before you begin; we can work that out together.

The ILAMOS Way

ILAMOS is more than a name. It reflects the philosophy behind how I work and what I hope therapy can offer each person.

Insight

Change often begins with understanding. Therapy gives you space to step back, make sense of what is happening, and recognise the patterns shaping the way you think, feel and respond. With greater insight comes greater choice about what you would like to keep and what you may want to change.

A Little More About Me

Outside of therapy, I’m drawn to the things that help me feel curious, connected and alive; yoga, walking along the beach or through the bush, art, reading, learning something new and spending time with my family.

I’ve always been fascinated by human consciousness, the way we make meaning from our experiences, and the many ways people continue to grow and change throughout life.

For me, there is something deeply grounding about nature. When we slow down enough to observe it, there is so much it can teach us about change, resilience, letting go and finding our own way forward.

Be in flow with life.

Life can sometimes put us in less-than-ideal situations. Some are painful, others are cruel, and some ask more of us than we ever expected. The truth is, we cannot control what life brings, but we can learn when to hold on, when to let go, and how to move with the current of life rather than fighting against it
