Weight Management
A personalised approach to changing the patterns around food, habits and behaviour.
You may already know what you would like to change. The difficult part is often turning that knowledge into something that feels realistic and sustainable in everyday life.
Eating can become connected with routines, cravings, emotions, environments and habits that happen almost automatically. You may find yourself eating when you are bored or stressed, snacking without really thinking about it, struggling with certain foods or finding it difficult to maintain changes once the initial motivation fades.
At ILAMOS, weight management is approached as a personalised therapeutic program rather than a one-size-fits-all plan.
Together, we look at what is happening specifically for you and focus on the patterns most relevant to your goals.
When Knowing What to Do Isn't Enough
Weight management is not always about needing more information. You may already understand nutrition, exercise and the choices you would like to make, yet still find yourself falling back into familiar patterns.
You might notice that you:
eat automatically at particular times or in certain situations
snack when bored, stressed, tired or unsettled
experience strong cravings or urges around particular foods
eat while watching television or doing something else
struggle with portion sizes or recognising when you've had enough
think about food more often than you would like
find it difficult to remain consistent when motivation changes
move between being very controlled and then losing momentum
know what you intended to do but find yourself doing something different in the moment
Therapy provides an opportunity to understand what happens around the behaviour, rather than relying only on willpower.
Your Personalised Weight Management Program
increasing awareness of hunger, fullness and eating routines
reducing all-or-nothing approaches to change
strengthening consistency when motivation fluctuates
building practical strategies that fit into everyday life
developing greater confidence in your ability to make purposeful choices
Depending on what is relevant for you, therapy may involve:
identifying eating patterns, routines and triggers
understanding what happens before cravings or urges
changing automatic habits around food
developing different responses to boredom, stress or habitual eating
Your program is shaped around your individual patterns, circumstances and goals.
The aim is not perfection or rigid control. It is to create more flexible and sustainable patterns that support the changes you want to make.
Strategic Psychotherapy & Clinical Hypnotherapy
Your program may combine strategic psychotherapy and clinical hypnotherapy, depending on your needs and preferences.
Strategic psychotherapy can help identify the patterns, responses and habits that may be keeping you stuck and support the development of more useful ways of responding.
Clinical hypnotherapy may be incorporated to reinforce therapeutic work, strengthen helpful patterns and support behavioural change.
For some clients, hypnotherapy may also include imagery-based approaches sometimes referred to as a virtual gastric band.
A virtual gastric band is a psychological imagery technique rather than a physical or medical procedure. It is only one possible component of therapy and would be used where it is appropriate to your individual goals and circumstances.
Working Alongside Other Health Support
Therapy does not replace medical, nutritional or exercise advice. Where appropriate, your weight management program can work alongside support from your GP, dietitian, exercise professional or other qualified health practitioners.
ILAMOS does not provide medical weight-loss treatment or eating-disorder treatment. If an eating disorder, significant medical concern or other issue requiring specialist care is identified, appropriate referral or additional support may be recommended.
Ready to Take the Next Step?
Your weight-management program starts with understanding you; your goals, your current patterns and what you would like to be different. From there, we can develop a personalised therapeutic approach designed around the areas that matter most to you.
